Become a KCBS Certified BBQ Judge!

And You Can Judge Any KCBS BBQ Contest In The World

KCBS teams are known for cooking some of the best barbeque in the world, but it takes a dedicated team of judges to decide which is truly the best-of-the-best. Being a Certified Barbeque Judge (CBJ) means more than just getting to taste award-winning barbeque - and deciding which barbeque wins those awards. It's about representing and spreading the message of KCBS, which is to promote America's cuisine - barbeque.

KCBS Instructor, Nancy Muller, will guide you through the proper means of judging competition quality BBQ. KCBS conducts official competitions at each event in the following categories: chicken, ribs, pork and brisket. A KCBS judge evaluates BBQ using three specific criteria: appearance, taste and texture. KCBS sanctioned events always prefer to have 100% Certified BBQ Judges and Table Captains to ensure judging standards are upheld.

During this class you will have the rare opportunity to judge world class competition BBQ and by the time you're finished, you'll be ready to sign up for the next competition in your area! And remember: your CBJ fee also includes one year's membership to KCBS. It's a win-win!
